As you pass by the imposing walls of Lesendra, a fortress nestled in the rugged terrain of Montenegro, you can't help but feel a sense of awe. Built in the 18th century, this fort stands as a testament to the region's tumultuous history and its strategic significance. The fortress is perched atop a steep hill, commanding a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, including the deep blue waters of the Adriatic Sea and the lush green valleys that stretch out below.
Constructed by the Venetians during their rule over the region, Lesendra was designed to protect the coastal routes and the inland trade routes from Ottoman advances. The walls, made of thick limestone blocks, have weathered centuries of conflict and time, yet they remain remarkably intact. The fort's architecture is a blend of military pragmatism and Venetian flair, with its sturdy bastions, narrow slits for archers, and strategically placed watchtowers. -
